Essays Collection Gatherings About
Notes

Letters to whoever wants them.

A note is not an essay. It is an invitation, or something worth passing along, or a question I have been asking myself that day. Sometimes it is a piece of writing that is not finished and probably never will be, which is exactly why it goes here and not on the Essays page.

There is no schedule. They arrive when I have something to say, which is some weeks and not others. There is no sequence waiting behind this form, and nothing you click will decide what you get sent next.

You can leave whenever you like, and the link to do it is at the bottom of every one.

What usually turns up in one

Something I am reading, and the sentence in it that stopped me.

A question I have been sitting with, usually the one I have not answered yet.

A thing I made, or a thing I abandoned, and what I learned either way.

A date, occasionally. Pop-ups and retreats are announced here before they are announced anywhere else.

No schedule, no pitch. Just the occasional note when there is one.

I read replies. Quite a lot of what ends up in the essays started as somebody writing back.
